Project Information: The Union-class battlecruiser is the official name given to the Next Generation Cruiser (CG(X)) program for Her Lady Columbia's Navy to replace all Ticonderoga-class cruisers currently in service.
Using much of the Zumwalt-class destroyers as a foundation for the battlecruisers—with the exception of the destroyer class's tumblehome design—the Union-class will be the largest and most armed vessel in the Columbian arsenal. With the continued rise in oil and decrease in its availability, the Union-class will be nuclear powered. This has caused some public backlash from the Columbian public, though the Senate has continued to fund nuclear power for the ship and have chosen to use half of a 550 thermal MW A4W nuclear reactor of the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.
The expected cost of each ship is projected to be approximately $5,572,752,117.45.
